TCPA SUMMER ACADEMY
The Trinity College Preparatory Academy: Jacob DeHoff Learning Center, a program designed to assist youth in their quest for higher education, is pleased to announce the full funding of twelve (12) student scholarships for its July 2018 STEM Program. This Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program is a full-time day (Monday - Friday) program that begins on July 1st through July 31st from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. The STEM approach focuses on inspiring students in these four subjects by integrating the teaching with an applied learning approach based on real-world applications. The program will be taught by a college professor, a high school teacher and a college student intern. Lunch will be provided.
Each scholarship is valued at $5,000. The selection process is competitive and priority will be given to the first twelve student candidates who are best qualified to be successful in the program. Priority will be given to students who attend the monthly TCPA seminar during the year. Enrollment is open during the year. Interested candidates should send a letter detailing why he or she will be a good candidate for the STEM Program at Trinity College Preparatory Academy: Jacob DeHoff Learning Center. Candidates who are selected to move forward in the application process will sit for an interview with the academy advisory board members. Please forward your materials to the email address below. Please include the following in the subject heading: TCPA Jacob DeHoff Learning Center STEM Application. Applications will be accepted until June 25, 2018 at 5:00 pm.

TCPA MISSION
Mission
The Trinity College Preparatory Academy or TCPA is a program provided at Trinity UCC. This is a monthly gathering of high school and middle school students from York and surrounding communities. The goals of the Trinity College Preparatory Academy, or TCPA, are to prepare kids for college and to assist in the process of preparing for college, through a series of 12 workshops. Workshops will be conducted one Saturday of the month for one year. Guest workshop leaders and lecturers will focus on a wide range of topics to include but not limited to; the application process, getting financial aid for college, selecting the right college for kids and their parents, navigating the culture of college, SAT Prep, and other concerns related to the college application and admission process. The Trinity College Preparatory Academy will sponsor no less than three to four college campus visits annually. Workshop leaders and lectures will be solicited to volunteer training sessions for the Trinity College Preparatory Academy. Monthly advertising will be conducted through social media, local media outlets, church mailing, and invitations.

Rationale
The gospel of Jesus compels those practicing the Christian faith to live a life that is meaningful, fulfilling, abundant and self-actualized. Each year, poverty deprives thousands of young people of realizing the American Dream of living dignified lives independent of governmental assistance. Research and empirical studies have demonstrated that education is the primary vehicle through which most people escape poverty, drug and alcohol addiction and prison. Thus, through the mission of education, the church fulfills the calling and work of Jesus the Christ to empower people to live the abundant life.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MS. TE’A BROWN
The Trinity College Preparatory Academy: Jacob DeHoff Learning Center awards its first annual scholarship to Ms. Te’a Brown. Ms. Brown will attend Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia, in the fall.
